First order for 2008

I was contacted by Stephanie to do a Hannah Montana cake for her daughter, Saylor's 6th birthday. This will be awesome to do because I can match the cake to the Hannah Montana invitation which has swirls, an outline of a guitar, and stars. My plan is to make a two tiered cake with purples, pinks, and teal accents to match the invitation. I'm also going to have floral wire with gumpaste stars and maybe even some jewels on it sticking out of the top. I'm sure Brennan will want to keep it for himself. Keep an eye out for pictures because this is due Jan 5th.

Cakes for this week

I have 3 cakes due this week. One is for my son's daycare Christmas party. He wanted it to be Santa so Santa it is. I baked a 1/2 sheet cake and carked it in an outline of Santa. Second one is a Christmas themed cake for a co-worker. His wife loved my Christmas one from last year that had a red bow and holly around it. I'm changing it up a bit for him though. Third, and most important, is the one for the memorial service for a fallen DMPD officer that died in the line of duty in a car wreck this year. I have the honor of baking a cake for the service. This one will be a 1/2 sheet cake with a 9 in round cake on top carved in the shape of a DMPD uniform hat. I'll also have a replica of the officers hat shield with his badge number on it. I seriously want that one to turn out perfect. Stay tuned for the results!

Starting the business

Well, it's official! I've started my own part-time business decorating cakes! I'm lucky to live in Iowa ( I usually don't say that) because since I operate out of my home, they allow home based bakeries as long as you fit the requirements (prepare non-hazardous foods, make under a certain amount a year). One of these days I would like to take the next step have this be my full-time job.

Why Enchanted Sweets? I am such a royal fanatic that I LOVE anything that has to do with royal families. That's how my little logo of a cake with a crown on top was born.

This is something I've always wanted to do and I am so happy that people love my work. The customers keep coming and the compliments are always great to get.

I wanted to start this blog so my customers and others can see the work in progress and know the stories behind each cake. Sit back and enjoy!

Story behind the obsession

Many wonder why in the world I chose to decorate cakes. It's always been a dream of mine ever since I was a kid. I remember going to Kroger's and whenever I walked by the bakery I always wondered what it would be like to do that. Well, it wasn't until I had my son that I actually took it seriously. I wasn't too happy with his 1st birthday cake, so when his 2nd birthday rolled around I decided to make it. It was the cutest little Elmo face. I thought, "Hey, this isn't hard at all!" and that's when it began. Why should I buy from the store, when I can make a unique one that's totally what I want?
